Paul Rahme (Gladstone, QLD)

I work from 9am to 2pm, 4 days a week at Macas at Kin Kora. I make sure the tables and bins are clean and ensure there are always enough straws, salt, pepper, sugar and serviettes for the customers. I also learn new things like cooking the ‘fries’. It is great to welcome and talk to customers and I like it when they tell my managers how hard I work. This is why I got a gold star badge for hard work and friendly service, which I wear on my uniform every day. I even got a birthday gift from a group of ladies who are now my friends and my parents were very surprised because they didn’t even know these friends of mine.

Once a fortnight, I do work experience at Scotties Bar & Restaurant. I set the tables, help take drink orders and welcome the customers. It is through this work-place and my boss Scott, that I have met our former Prime Minister Mr. Tony Abbott.

I’m also a founding member of Agapi Enterprises (Gladstone) Inc, a social enterprise business where we hand make high quality skin care products. It is through Agapi and Kathy Corones (the patron) that I have met Australia’s Miss World and Madeline Stuart, an 18 year old aspiring model from Brisbane, Australia with Down Syndrome.

I have lots of good friends that work with me. I want to work hard every day, I prepare my work clothes, go to bed early the night before and make sure I am ready on time every morning. I choose to work hard because I know it is healthy for me and it makes me very happy. One day I want to buy the same things my big bro Simon has with the money I save. Best of all, my work has allowed me to dream big, because I can!
