Inclusion Australia is asking individuals, families, employers, disability organisations and community members to support a campaign for a better employment support system for people with intellectual disability.
The Commonwealth Government is currently reviewing the employment support system to develop a new National Disability Employment Framework for 2018. There is a consultation process in progress. You can find out more about this process at the government website.
Inclusion Australia's position is that a new national disability employment framework should be based on what actually achieves employment outcomes for youth with intellectual disability.
We believe this is the best way to increase open employment outcomes and the best value for the taxpayer dollar.
Unfortunately, there are few skilled open employment providers for people with intellectual disability in Australia, and many members of the community have low expectations about youth with intellectual disability moving from school into a job in the open workforce.
Inclusion Australia is putting together the We Can Work web-site dedicated to building support for our position for a new disability employment framework built upon demonstrated success.
The web site will begin by seeking your support of a petition seeking a new disability employment framework. We are planning to share news, stories, videos, documents and facts to inform and support our position.
The ultimate purpose of our campaign is to ensure all individuals with intellectual disability have the opportunity to receive good support to work in the open labour market. We know this is possible when the right support is available.
Our campaign is to tell the Commonwealth Government that we want the new employment system to build support which has demonstrated high rates of employment outcomes for people with intellectual disability.
